What’s In A Fancy Disney Pin?
By Sammy DeOrtha on July 11, 2009
The Walt Disney Company has been able to produce a long line of characters people from different generations and walks of life. Though there are newer character productions such as those of Lilo and Stitch as well as that of Nemo; the classic characters like Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Goofy, Pluto and the rest of the gang has is still around which people have and still do dearly enjoy.
Aficionados of the Disney line have been constantly diligent in keeping pieces of memorabilia with them to remember their favorite characters or movies. The Disney Pins have been created to be part of these time pieces which people who have followed the Disney production have been avidly collecting and trading among other fanatics.
There have been huge selections created for the Disney Pins which are widely available in Disney stores and other trading places alike. There are different prints, designs and series editions for those which are made for limited offers. And for the last few years, people of all ages have grown fond of sharing and acquiring different Disney Pins by means of trading them on Disney parks and other pin traders.
Tens of thousands of pins have been manufactured, distributed, bought, collected and traded. However, for each line of Disney Pins made, a piece is immediately kept inside the Disney archive vault for safe keeping and more so to be able to preserve it and keep it part of the entire pin line. For these great pins, it is rather important for one to know how to easily spot an authentic piece from that of a bootleg.
To tell what Disney pin you have it is necessary to check the back stamp, which is an indentation bearing all sorts of information about the pin in question. Some of the things contained on the back stamp are edition size, series number, and manufacturer.
Disney Pins are made from a variety of designs and materials. Among which are the die cast pins which are made from brass zinc alloy; the three dimensional effect which is much appreciated comes from the high quality hand engraved dies. Another of the unique pins are the Dangle pins; these pins are rather similar to those regular pins with the slight exception of the base as it is slightly extended and hangs from one or a few loops or chains. Other novelty pins which are ideal for both trading and collecting are the lenticular and the light-up pins; these pins are unique for its feature which is mostly appreciated by kids. Light-up pins have the capacity to get lit and flash when used while the lenticular pins possess the ability to be able to project two or more patterns when the pin is tilted to an angle.
There are also some fancy novelty pins such as the slider pin; these pins have the ability to have a moving object slide back and forth the base of the pin. Spinner pins however, has the ability to spin a portion of the pin 360 degrees to consistently show the surface of the pin as helped by a mechanism in it.
And much like most things, Disney manufacturers have pins which they refer to as the Retired Pins; these pins are those which have ceased production and distribution to give way to other new prints and designs to market and collect.
