Family Health Insurance Policies: Alternative To Individual Insurance
By J.D Theis on November 18, 2009
People have to bear the rising healthcare costs. One aspect of the healthcare industry is the health insurance companies. To adapt to current situations, these companies charge higher premiums.
Who pays for the expensive premiums? These are paid by average Americans who are facing budgetary constraints. That is why more and more people cannot afford to get health insurance. Employers have also been limiting the benefits of workers that they get from group health insurance plans to cut costs. As a consequence, workers have to pay for higher co-pays and deductibles.
This is a grim picture because health should be prioritized. Remember the adage that health is wealth.
Imagine also the high costs of medical services, treatments and medicines. Without insurance, you have to shell out from your pocket the whole payment. Get a health plan you can afford so you can keep up with the premiums, deductibles, co-pays, co-insurance and out-of the pocket expense. To cope up with the expensive premiums, families are choosing family health insurance policy. In a recent statistics, it revealed that family coverage increased by 5% in 2009.
Families can choose private family insurance policies especially to those who don’t have an access to employment based insurance. The insured person has the option to add immediate family members under one policy.
There are different levels to this type of policy. However, a typical health plan will cover basic surgery expenses, treatment, dental care, specialized treatment and emergency medical facilities. The levels will determine the insurance premium to be paid. These are
* Family * Subscriber and Spouse + Separate Child Only * Subscriber (Wife) and Child + Separate Single Adult (Husband) * Subscriber (Husband) and Child + Separate Single Adult (Wife)
There are two broad types of family insurance policies. These are the indemnity and managed care plan. In managed care plan, the insurance company provides a list of doctors and hospitals. The insured person can only choose from that list. One of the benefits of this plan is that the insurance company will pay medical bills directly to the doctor or hospital.
In indemnity plan, the insured person has more choices because he can choose the hospital and doctors. But he needs to pay medical bills for every visit to the doctor or hospital while the insurance company will reimburse the amount after.
Get also health insurance quotes to compare rates and policies. It is also a tool for knowing affordable health insurance and comparing insurance rates from different companies. Look for insurance companies registered in your state because insurance policies are designed to fit local conditions.
