I recommend to my students that they start their self credit repair by putting together a budget. You want to create a personal balance sheet. Make a list of all your monthly debts, then another list of your income. This will give you a birds-eye view of your entire situation. Consider this to be a starting point.
Request copies of your credit report. Once you have your credit report in hand you will want to circle all negative marks. Then it’s time to put together a letter of dispute and mail it back to the credit bureaus, along with any proof regarding your claims.
Here’s a little self credit repair secret that I had to learn the hard way. When you get ready to send off your letter of dispute, make sure to send it certified mail. This will be the only proof that you have of your dispute claims.
Be fore warned – credit bureaus rather not deal with credit agencies or fancy attornys. Those parties are considered to be middle men and they know that they cannot legally act on your behalf. You will be a lot better off to write your letter yourself, in your own words.
There are four key ingredients that you will need when it comes to self credit repair. The first thing you will need is knowledge. The second is organization. The third is persistence. The fourth is time. Keep in mind – your credit didn’t go downhill overnight so don’t expect it to magically be repaired overnight.
